It’s been a scorcher here in the Old North State this summer. Whether it’s a dip in the local swimming hole, a trip to the coast, or a frosty ice cream cone, we’re all looking for ways to cool off.
Inspired by our latest selection of North Carolina-made pottery, we set out to use one of our favorite NC summer crops, blueberries, to make a cool and colorful lemonade.
The simple recipe goes something like this: whiz blueberries around in the blender, then steep them in a lemon zest-inflected simple syrup. Add the lemon juice, strain it, and then chill in the refrigerator. Serve with a garnish of mint or a lemon slice. You might even add gin, vodka, or rum for a summery adult treat.
Cooking is only as easy as the tools you stock in the kitchen, and we have gorgeous functional pottery made in North Carolina to make lemonade-making easier… and prettier. Rinse your NC-grown blueberries in our TURQUOISE BERRY BOWL, made in Pfafftown by Beckett Pottery. Juice your lemons in our CERAMIC CITRUS JUICER by Carrboro’s Jessica Hunter. Serve this delicious nectar in our gorgeous FLOWERY YELLOW PITCHER, from Kelly Brooke Pottery in High Point. Now that's a recipe for celebrating North Carolina this summer.
