The house is made to withstand the elements when placed in a protected area and brought in each winter, but will age gracefully over the years. Hang hummingbird feeders and house in early spring. Place house under an eve out of the wind, rain, and sun, and leave a small supply of dryer lint nearby but not in the house. Hummingbirds like bright colors when feeding, but prefer natural colors that blend in outdoors when nesting. Males come early to claim their territory, so they can attract up to 25 females. While a hummingbird is not guaranteed to take up residence In the house (there are no guarantees with any birdhouse), each one can house a hummingbird and two eggs. Nests are the size of a penny. Eggs are the size of a Tic Tac. Chicks return year after year to start their own families. Clean out the house each winter with a bottle brush and store inside or use decoratively until next spring. You can refresh the finish with natural walnut oil on the exterior of the house.
