Mary Kirk has been creating pottery since 2017. After her youngest child graduated high school, Mary took a pottery course at the Sawtooth Center in Winston-Salem, and developed her passion from there. She enjoys carving pottery pieces, and uses a technique called sgraffito which creates a design by cutting away parts of the surface layer. Inspired by the varied works of other North Carolina potters from Seagrove to Asheville, Mary’s work is everevolving.
